San Antonio has a new place to toast big games by day and big times with friends at night. Witness, the new dual purpose bar, is now open near the University of Texas at San Antonio.

The bar and nightclub occupy the space that was once the study area. The study space opened in March 2020 and closed in February 2022. The process of transforming the former café and bar into a witness began soon after. However, the witness did not just move in. Owners Louis “Lou” Sanchez, Tony Coss (owner of La Roca, Box Car, and Green Lantern), and William Camarillo gave the corner space a flashy new look that officially debuted Thursday, May 5.

Gabriella Martinez, Sanchez’s wife, says “lots” of televisions have been installed, perfect for watching on game day as well as a “top notch” sound system to keep the party going into the night. She explains that Witness will be more of a sports bar during the day before evolving into a nightclub at night.

Fans of sets made for Instagram snaps will find a few at Witness, with custom neon lights, Britney Spears-lined toilets, VIP sections and murals. Martinez says the bar was also accented with a mirror tile backsplash.

“It’s a really classy, classy place,” Martinez says.

She adds that the current daily menu is “elevated” bar food, like lobster rolls. There are also small bites like a flatbread and truffle fries. Brunch offers are also in preparation.

Witness is open daily from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. You can find it at 7280 UTSA Boulevard.
